Spotted Gum flooring is generally laid for it's colour and grain, so when we were requested to stain this one in a Black Japan colour we were pretty excited, as it's certainly one out of the box
Not having ever stained Spotted Gum before there's always that bit of trepidation as you never quite know what's going to happen. Like, will the stain take to it? Will the colour be even enough? Will the stain be strong enough to mask the colours of the Spotted Gum beneath?
Well, as the photographs show, I needn't have worried as it went on beautifully and achieved the very results our client had in mind
Once the stain was dried the finishing coats were applied. The final coat is Handley Matt providing the floor with maximum protection while giving it that really classy, matte type look
This turned out to be a wonderful floor and one I was so glad to have had the opportunity to work on

The black Japan gives the Spotted Gum a very even appearance.
The stain has reduced the variation between each board dramatically.
Feast Watson Black Japan stain still allows the grain to show through.
The blue and the Black Japan work really well together.
The stain was wiped on and then wiped of with rags.
Spotted Gum has the tightest of grain, no matter how you look at it.
The matte finish is just perfect, offering both protection and good looks.
Once the kickers get painted it will finish everything off nicely.
