Tasmanian Oak Floor

Handley Matt Protection

Carnegie, VIC

This home in Carnegie had four different sections of Tasmanian Oak spread throughout the place all from various renovation efforts over the years. All four were sanded and finished at different times, by different tradespeople using different finishes - all up a 'dog's breakfast'

My wife, Lisa, and I were delighted to come in and be able to make the entire floor become 'as one' by bringing all four sections together using the same sanding techniques and finishing.

The finish we used here was Handley Matt

All up a gorgeous Tasmanian Oak Floor

Getting set up for a day of sanding work

This here is some pretty ordinary floor sanding work

Lisa filling some large holes from old plumbing pipes

The polyurethane coating brings it all to life

Incredible depth from the finishing coats

The floor is all shiny when it's wet - then as it dries the magic happens

The Handley Matt finish is stunning

The grain on Tasmanian Oak can be so different depending on how the timber was milled

Such a mellow, gentle look

The Handley Matt polyurethane dries to a very consistent sheen right across the floor

This is the section from up above that was pretty roughly sanded previously

The mark of good floor sanding work is when the small sections look as good as the large spaces

Up close each individual piece of Tasmanian Oak flooring is beautiful in it's own right

The transition where the boards change directions can still look great, done right

The morning sun picks out that grain beautifully

Initially quite a challenging Tasmanian Oak floor which far exceeded the owners expectations
