Baltic Pine Floor

Handley Lo-Sheen Protection

Grantville, VIC

These old Baltic Pine floors are in an amazing old house that's been picked up from an inner suburban block and relocated out to Grantville.

I love the fact that the couple had the vision to see the enormous potential in relocating such a grand old home and restoring it back to its former glory. It's a project I couldn't wait to get into.

As the pictures show, the boards were covered in old black japan,  had a million nails and staples in them and were pretty much all over the shop as far as the different heights and joins go.

This sort of floor sanding work isn't for everyone, as it's slow and tedious when compared to quickly knocking over a new floor.

With big jobs like this we often break it up into smaller manageable tasks to save it from becoming overwhelming. Plus, once we've finished a section we're able to put a coat of our 2 pac polyurethane over the finished work to protect it from any mud and dirt from being tracked over it.

When done it all dried to a matte finish, which is pretty much in line with the type of look that went with older homes of this era.

This was one of those special jobs that gave me immense satisfaction as it all came together.

An absolutely magnificent example of what's possible with an Old Baltic Pine

They do take a bit of work and sanding, but when the results are like this it's worth every bit of the effort
